FAQ

What are superfoods?
Superfoods are foods — mostly plant-based but also some fish and dairy — that are recognized for having an overabundance of nutrients and are therefore extra healthy. Examples include berries like acai and blueberries, fish like salmon, and dark green leafy vegetables like kale.

What is MCT?
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides, in other words, a kind of fat. MCT molecules are smaller than those in most of the fats you eat, which makes them easier to digest and less likely to be stored as body fat. Usually, people use MCT for extra energy for exercise, help with weight loss, appetite control, or for inflammation. MCT oil is usually made from coconut or palm kernel oil.

Can I use XOMA Superfood products if I’m breastfeeding or pregnant?
If you are pregnant, lactating, have a medical condition, or are on any medication, please consult with your licensed healthcare provider if you have any questions about using this product.

Where can I find nutritional information about XOMA Superfoods?
You can find nutritional information about XOMA Superfoods in our online store or on the packaging.

The NEXE Pod

Which Keurig Machines do NEXE Pods work with?
NEXE Pods work best with K-Compact and K-Express brewers.

When will the Nespresso compatible pods be available?
The K-Cup and Nespresso-compatible pods are available now. Check out nexecoffee.com to order some great tasting coffee now.

What are your compostable pods made of?
The NEXE pod is made using plant-based materials that break down completely in industrial composting facilities. The pod is made from a combination of plant fiber, compostable polymers, and other compostable materials.

What is the difference between ‘biodegradable’ and ‘compostable’?
Biodegradation is the breakdown of materials by microorganisms like bacteria and fungi. Composting occurs when humans create a special environment for biodegradation to take place.

How should I dispose of my NEXE pods?
The NEXE pod can be disposed of in the green bin, where municipalities accept compostable packaging. The entire pod is compostable – no need to separate the lid, cup, or coffee.

Can I dispose of NEXE pods in my backyard compost?
NEXE pods should be handled by your municipal composting facility to ensure they break down completely. NEXE encourages backyard composting and will soon release information on how to build a true DIY compost.

What is the difference between municipal composting and backyard composting?
Municipal composting facilities use higher temperatures to ensure that organic waste breaks down more quickly and completely than a backyard composting pile. In some facilities, the compost can even be used to generate renewable natural gas.

Have NEXE pods been tested in a municipal composting facility?
The NEXE pod was developed and tested in collaboration with the Municipal Biofuels Facility in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, which processes more than 115,000 tonnes of organic waste annually.

Have NEXE pods been tested by independent third parties?
NEXE pod materials have been validated as fully compostable by researchers at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada and meet international standards for certification as compostable materials. The NEXE pod is currently undergoing certification from the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).

Will the compost soil from the breakdown of the NEXE pod contain toxic byproducts?
The NEXE pod breaks down to non-toxic materials, leaving no microplastics behind. A six-month independent study found no impact on the growth of vegetables in soil mixed with compost from the NEXE pod.

Are NEXE pods better than conventional plastic pods?
Conventional coffee pods are made from non-compostable materials that remain in the landfill for 500 years or longer. The NEXE pod can be composted in as little as 35 days.

Are compostable pods a good solution to the single-use plastics issue?
Composting is a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics that reduces the impact of plastic on our environment.
